Some people may find blue rice strange but it is actually a very pleasing blue color and is quite pretty. While the dish mainly consists of a variety of herbs, fresh vegetables, condiments, fish, and meats, no two servings of nasi kerabu are the same. Look out for what’s special on that day! Ayu Fashion (Batik Painting & Block Factory) Located in Kampung Talak, Tumpat, this workshop is a producer of batik Kelantan using the traditional block-print technique. Interestingly, there are five thousand block-prints being showcased here. You can witness how batik fabrics are produced and even take part in batik-colouring and batik-stamping. Many choices of beautiful batik apparel are also on sale at this workshop’s gallery. Wayang Kulit Pak Soh Kampung Laut Meet Pak Soh, the wayang kulit (shadow puppets) maker and one of the famous and experienced "Tok Dalang'' in Kampung Laut, Kelantan. Still ever enthusiastic with the shadow puppets, he will share his knowledge in them. The main story-line, known as cerita pokok (trunk story), is performed occasionally; minor-tales and sub-plots involving the same characters, known as cerita ranting (branch stories), are far more popular. The principal performer in the Wayang Kulit Siam tradition is the dalang (master puppeteer). Besides animating the puppets with action and speech, the dalang provides narration and commentary, leads the musical orchestra and attends to the ritual aspects of a performance. KB Permai (Silversmithing) The state of Kelantan is famous for silversmithing, which is also one of the branches of Malay craft. Armed with 11 highly skilled employees, KB Permai is a well-known reputable brand that produces silver crafts. Founded by the late Abdul Manan bin Yakub, his business is succeeded by his son and relatives. In 2008, the government of Malaysia selected KB Permai’s silver crafts to be sold in London’s famous shopping centre, Harrods. In 2005, Mr. Abdul Manan was commissioned to produce a gift made from silver to be presented to the former Secretary of United Nations, Kofi Annan. To be part of this beautiful Kelantanese heritage, visitors can take the silver art pieces home at reasonable prices. Lunch at Restoran Nasi Ulam Cikgu Located within the grounds of the Kelantan Handicraft Museum, this popular restaurant serves Kelantanese traditional dishes. It prominently features all kinds of raw edible vegetables on its menu. Among the dishes that become the customers’ favourite are the ulam (raw edible vegetables), budu (anchovy paste), sambal belacan (spicy shrimp paste) and sayur lemak campur (mixed vegetable cooked in coconut gravy). Restoran Nasi Ulam Cikgu is sure approved by its locals for a delicious meal. Istana Jahar : Museum Of Royal Traditions And Customs The Istana Jahar, Museum Of Royal Traditions And Customs, is a former palace built in 1887 during the reign of Sultan Muhammad II. It was named after a jahar tree which was growing in the grounds at the time. This 19th century monument has a lot to be visited. There is a story in every painting that’s kept for exhibitions. The pictures of the kings have a lot of stories to tell about the past. These are the things which you do not get to see very often elsewhere. This museum too, features all the customs and rituals followed by the royal family. Che Minah Songket Songket is a hand-woven traditional textile making technique to create intricately patterned silk or cotton brocade fabric with gold or silver threads, weaved meticulously by the dedicated experienced weavers. Che Minah Songket Retail Store is one of the largest Songket weaving factories in Kota Bahru and offers you a chance to see live demonstrations by the skilful Malay ladies. Beautiful patterns from simple to sophisticated designs are woven traditionally lovingly, thread by thread by the talented Kelantanese, producing stylish and luxurious fabrics for special celebratory occasions. Pak Sapie Wau Gallery (Galeri Wau Pak Sapie) Established by the late Pak Sapie, the legendary Wau maker of Malaysia. The famous “Wau” or traditional kites are mostly made in and associated with Kelantan. The kites are made of split bamboo and coloured paper with tassels and strings. Such art of making kites is not easy and requires patience and precision. Learn the art of Wau making, an endangered art - from the history of the kites to the carving of the frame and the process of making the colourful motifs. It’s an experience that will make you go “Wau”. Evening Meals at Pantai Cahaya Bulan Discover the delicious local snacks and delicacies being sold along this beach known as Pantai Cahaya Bulan. Fresh seafood, cool sweet ice cream and refreshing fruit and drinks, there’s plenty for your foodie soul. Taste the freshness of clams that are meaty and tender.
