Cameron Highlands is a great weekend escape for everyone and anyone. It is a cooling escape for friends and families to leave the Malaysian cities' heat and busy traffic!
Cameron Highlands is the most popular of the highland retreats in Malaysia. Located at almost 2,000 meters at its highest point, Camerons gives visitors a cool climate with daytime temperatures averaging around 25°C and 18°C at night.
This gives the environment advantageous for growing continental plants, fruits, and vegetables while providing a cool escape for city-dwellers. The township of Camerons is itself divided into Tanah Rata, Brinchang, and Ringlet.
Named after the surveyor Sir William Cameron, a British colonial officer, the highlands grasp all the mid-19th century hallmarks. It was when the British Empire was the supreme power in Malaysia. Tea farms cloak the hills, Tudor-style architecture is throughout, and here, deep in Southeast Asia, there’s an enduring tradition of afternoon cream teas.

Mossy Forest
The Mossy Forest of Gunung Brinchang is a must-see attraction in Cameron Highlands, especially if you love being in the outdoors!
And undertaking the mossy forest hike to get there is not necessary. So almost anyone can come and see this natural wonder! Via the mossy forest boardwalk.
A relatively new addition to protecting the fragile ecosystem. That also makes the trek easier on the knees! Make your way through the forest, and you will feel as though you are entering a whole different world.
Tea Plantation
Much as the British did in the 19th century, modern Malaysians come to Cameron to seek respite from the sweltering cities. One of the quintessential experiences for visitors is sipping a brew outdoors while gazing across the fresh, velvety-green hills.
Boh Sungai Palas, 15km (9.3 miles) north of Bharat, has an especially lovely vantage point. The glass-fronted cafe adjoining this tea plantation (founded in 1929) is perched on the crest of a hill surrounded by fuzzy emerald valleys.
Tea Factory & Cafe
Take the factory tour of this amazing tea plantation. Get to know the different kinds of leaves made for brewing the right cup of tea. Observe the workers as the sieve and roast the tea leaves for that sip of tea that we all love.
Order a pot of loose-leaf tea, ideally spiked with cardamom or lemongrass—it’s the ideal prelude to exploring the rest of the Highlands, which are a playground of walking trails, fruit farms, and other outdoorsy delights.
Butterfly Farm
The Butterfly Farm stocks various insects, reptiles, mammals, and birds housed on a landscaped garden with festoons of orchids, ferns, vines, and other greenery. Another attached garden is filled with flowers such as roses and hibiscus with streams of Rajah Brooke butterflies.
Butterflies will usually be soaring everywhere, but this may be seasonal. As the butterflies need to be restocked every week due to their short lifespan (14 days after metamorphosis), there are times when the butterflies can be few. Fortunately, the butterflies are not the only thing to look at. Glass enclosures along with the pathway house creatures such as snakes, lizards, insects, and furry rodents.
Strawberry Farm
Nothing could be a better accompaniment to afternoon tea than a locally grown strawberry jam. For decades, the Cameron Highlands has been the heart of Malaysia’s strawberry industry, and pick-your-own berry farms are wildly popular.
On a drive through the region, you'll see gigantic strawberry sculptures on the roadside beckoning visitors to come to pick juicy berries—or at least to grab a strawberry-shaped key ring. Several farms are dotted around Brinchang, a town in the heart of the Highlands. Either pick your own or sip a strawberry ice cream smoothie while browsing chocolate-covered strawberries and other takeaway snacks.
While there, do not forget to try out the strawberry dessert! From ice cream to waffles, juices, and smoothies to even Nasi Lemak Strawberry and the typical strawberry and whipped cream. If all that is not what you like, there is always the perfect strawberry dipped in chocolate not to be missed.
